Nothing Is Worth Your Mental Health!

When I started writing this blog I wanted to help people gain insight on simple questions related to their daily life; especially  related to economics as it is one of my most favorite subjects. I've written articles like 'Why can't we print more money'? and What is black money?, Although I want to share more such content, but there's a bigger elephant still in the room. No matter how much knowledge we gain regarding finance, economics, math, etc. it won't help us get through life until we talk about mental health.

You may be smart, rich or even handsome but it requires a healthy and stable mindset to get through life and actually make positive use of your smartness, richness and even good looks. Addressing your emotions is tough but very essential, especially in our current scenario.

I'm not a trained professional to help with any mental problem but I am definitely an experienced person to tell you how it helped me handle my thing or as the youth says.. put my shit together (that sounds so odd :P)

This pandemic has actually tested our mental strength, Don't you think? It's worse than getting my periods! In this lockdown, I have had such extreme reactions - felt deep pain, a great sense of gratitude, laughed so much, anger issues, tantrums and what-not. In this few months, I had a roller coaster of emotions running in my mind.... WHAT A RIDE! I'm sure you must have had too... that's why let's understand the basic.


Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices. 
Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

Over the course of your life, if you experience mental health problems, your thinking, mood, and behaviour could be affected. Many factors contribute to mental health problems, including:
  • Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry
  • Life experiences, such as trauma or abuse
  • Family history of mental health problems


Your mental health should be the topmost priority in your life. Hear me out again - not money, not studies, not your career and not even your damn girlfriend or boyfriend, first comes your mental health. Trust me, it is not selfish.

WHO has labelled India as the world’s ‘most depressed country’

Moreover, between 1990 to 2017, one in seven people from India have suffered from mental illness ranging from depression, anxiety to severe conditions such as schizophrenia, according to a study. Wait, what? I thought Abbu nahi manegey was the only depressing thing I knew! I thought brown moms hitting us was the only fear I had. 

It's our childhood that shapes our mental health. It is so important to have a healthy childhood. I know, it's not easy for everyone but parents play an important role in shaping our mental health. Look, brown kids don't have happy tales with their parents, they have surviving stories
The other day I remember my friends telling me how they were accurate in catching Chappals (Slippers) when their moms threw at them.. I was like, hell no! if I did that I would be killed!! (for killing my mom's ego) 

Every Indian kid has been slapped by their parents, I take pride in that, it makes us stronger don't you think? It's kinda funny sometimes (dark humour) The worst irony is getting hit by your mom and calling out her only name for help. Damn!!

Look, I'm not blaming brown parents, they have been strict, it is because of their parents, this cycle continues but wait... Don't you think it needs to stop? Stop with us!! BREAKING THIS CHAIN is so important because we know how it has impacted our lives.

In 2019, one out of four people has faced depression or any mental illness

I have a different take on this, I feel we all have been depressed at one point in our life, it's like a cycle realizing that the previous pain was nothing as compared to the one which we suffer at the moment. It's like a dilemma, you get me?
You think break up hurts? I have even been depressed when I don't feel full (hungry)! That's a different kind of sadness, you feel me? ;(

Mental health is a stigma

Shhh... no one talks about mental health! if you did, you hear Tu pagal hai kya? (are you going mad)
It is no exaggeration to suggest that this country is under a mental health epidemic (worse than coronavirus) Why is it okay to visit a doctor when you feel physical pain and not when you are facing mental illness?  I mean c'mon, isn't logical to do the same for both types of pain. 
More than 60% of people with mental health problems and mental illness won't seek the help they need; stigma is one of the main reason.

Every hour, one student commits suicide in India

There are about 28 such suicides reported every day, according to data compiled by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The NCRB data shows that 10,159 students died by suicide in 2018, an increase from 9,905 in 2017, and 9,478 in 2016. Do you realize how serious this is in India?
Hold a mirror to the Education system, parents, peers and even you!! For god sake, it makes me so angry as a student.

The amount of pressure that comes from the surrounding is immense. No parents, I don't want to hear "things were bad in our times too but we never did this" No, they weren't!!! Nobody got 99%, nobody was interested in getting into top institutes and nobody damn hoped to score 100 on 100. Don't give those excuses to your children, it is to cliche, trust me you are not helping them.

Sometimes, it is us too.. Why do we have to be good at something which we aren't ? just because your friend has done well in studies doesn't mean you are great too. Look, I'm all up for healthy competition but not for toxic one's I mean who decides that if you are not great at studying you won't do well? Look at our P.M, he did pretty well. I'm sure there are so many live examples you already know.

Heal yourself or get yourself some professional help

I'm sure sometimes all we need to do is talk about how we feel. We may do that with our friends, siblings, parents, relatives (worse choice ever) and even our colleagues sometimes but not everyone can understand what you feel that's why you need yo take professional help. 
Go, talk to a Counsellor, a Psychologist, a Psychiatrist or any mental health professional (they are not the same)Book that appointment! 
When you can visit a doctor if sick then why not any mental health professional for mental illness? 
I feel we all need a talk (including me) professionally, it helps you allocate your thoughts and makes you feel better.

It is a process of taking care of yourself.. It may seem like a selfish choice but it isn't because as we all know we can not pour from an empty cup.

And sometimes.. just sometimes look at the Stars (bet you're singing Yellow by Coldplay). Look above you! You are this teeny tiny person, living in this whole wide universe. Do you realize how minuscule our problems are? The world doesn't revolve around you, it revolves with you!

Note: I haven't touched upon physical and mental abuse but do understand that it must be given the highest priority. This post is not to offend anyone but make all of us aware of mental health which is extremely important.

Well explained mental stability is most important as it increases confidence in individual to face the world.Person goes via different phases in life like childhood ,teenage etc and faces a lot of expectations from their parents relatives.It is not that everytime the expectations get fullfilled.But when person fails in meeting those expectations he or she hurts from inside he is emotionally and mentally disturb at that moment.So yes mental stability is something people should work upon by doing yogas ,regular exercise and good diet will help to gain confidence.Health is wealth is not said for saying but it gives the clear message.
