What is SEO and Why is SEO Important?

What is SEO?

Search Engine Optimization (a.k.a SEO) is the process of optimizing any given search word or term for a search engine on your website.

Let's take an example to understand this in a  much better and simpler way.

Suppose you have opened a new Bakery in the town. After going through a lot of hustle, you decided to name it - 'Wake and Bake'. Now, apart from a physical presence, you decided to have an online website where you are not only going to sell your tasty mouth-watering items but also planning to help your customers by sharing some awesome bakery tricks by writing blogs about them.

One day while you were busy taking the hot freshly baked bread out of the oven, your kid runs over to you with his mobile phone in hand and says out loud...

"Ma/Pa, I'm not able to find our famous make at home Wake and Bake Secret Sauce recipe"

While you paid no attention to him at that point of time, a few days later a favourite customer of yours walked in and said

"Hey... I was just trying to find some of your tips by doing a search on Google, but sadly I found none of them... Hope you have not removed them from your website"

Later that evening, you decided to sit down and search it yourself

And when you pressed the 'Enter' key on the keyboard, you were surprised

You tried a couple of other searches too "Wake and Bake Make At Home Recipes", "Wake and Bake Sunday Treat", "Wake and Bake Children Special"

And to your dismay, nothing showed up. You have been updating your website for quite some time and yet nothing

Well, my fellow bloggers and marketers, this is exactly where SEO comes in.

So basically, SEO is a way to improve your website such that it appears on the top positions in the search results on search engines like Google, Bing and Yandex.

Why is SEO Important?

Now let us bounce back to the virtual world of our Wake and Bake Bakery...

A friend of yours ( You can consider that to be me 😁) decided to stop by at your bakery. While you offered me some freshly-baked muffins, you raised a concern to me

"Sood, I have figured out that I need to perform SEO on my website, but I fail to understand how will it help me? Apart from the fact that my customers will be able to find me on the search engines easily"

I gulped down a big bite of the tasty muffin and replied with a big smile...

1. SEO Helps You Increase Organic Traffic

"When you write a post about baking or a trick or tip to make things easier, I'm sure you might just be concentrating on the people who visit your store"

"But, as a matter of fact, the moment you post it on your website that information can help not just your current customers but anyone in the world who is looking for help with that particular thing."

"So basically, by implementing correct SEO, your article features on the first page of search engines which gets more visitors to your website."

Meanwhile, you ordered your kid to bring in more freshly-baked muffins. I guess you want to know more ...

2. Better Return On Investment (ROI)

Now, I guess you could have figured out that more visitors indirectly mean more potential customers and that means you bring in more income from your website by either making more sales or just by any other monetization method you are using on your website.

I know you have figured that out, you are a smart one indeed

3. SEO Helps in Building Brand Awareness

I'm sorry, my attention was drawn towards the freshly baked muffins which just arrived...

"Ah... yum"

"Oh I meant yes"

"So, now once your posts have started appearing on the front page of Google for certain topics like "At home bakery tips" or "bakery" many will stumble upon your articles again and again which will increase the awareness of "Wake and Bake".

So, over a period of time, people will start remembering your Brand's name, and whenever they need to find something related to Bakery they will jump back to your website.

Plus, this will help you sell more products too

4. SEO Helps To Build Trust

"I want you to listen to me carefully now"

Over a period of time, your brand will start connecting with customers and readers on a whole different level. There will be people who would subscribe to your blog, write back to you for feedback and suggestions.

Many will want to try out these tasty muffins too

So, "Wake and Bake" will be respected as a prominent brand in the baking industry. You will build trust, love, loyalty, more love, and affection from people all over the world. This will result in more business for you.

5. Competition

"Well, you know what 'Bakers Treat' the bakery across the town has also launched their website last week"

"Also, there are many other bakeries from all over the world who already have a website with their own posts revolving around the same topics"

In order to beat them to the first page of Google, you will need to implement some SEO techniques.

Its not as bad as you are thinking right now. You can always get some great ideas looking at what keywords they are targeting and accordingly, you can create a SEO strategy.

So, I guess after reading this you might have got some idea of what SEO is and why is it important

And now I'm really gonna find some muffins to eat

Meanwhile, you can share this with a friend and let me know your views in the comment section
